  1. Stunning alignment of the two photographic images. Very well done indeed!

The Miller house was at least temporarily used as a field hospital due to its close proximity to the titanic struggle for the Cornfield. Grievously wounded in the abdomen, Sergeant Joseph Herzog (a member of Battery B, 4th U.S. Artillery) somehow managed to drag himself to the comparative safe harbor and shelter that Miller's initially represented to him. He discovered that he was out of options, however, after arriving.

Upon being told that his wound was mortal by the doctor and that he had precious few hours to live, Herzog --- utilizing his sidearm --- chose self euthanization over prolonging his agony. Such a sad, utterly tragic fate for this brave soldier to have had to endure! Hopefully he found peace, his soul at rest.

The horror and human suffering that occurred at the historic Miller Farm and surrounding fields, is truly incalculable.
